Back to MAC Program

I have successfully used up six MAC products. This would normally be very sad, seeing as I will now need to repurchase these items, but MAC takes away the pain, just a bit. The company offers a program called "Back to MAC" in which you take in six empty containers back to MAC and recieve a free lipstick of your choice. Seeing as how I have a wish list of about ten MAC lipsticks that I can't wait to get my hands on I am extremely excited about this trip.

The website is a bit more picky on what empties they will accept: eye shadow pan, eye shadow quad, eye shadow trio, lipstick tube, lip gloss tube,  foundation bottle or compact, mascara tube, eyeliner, blush or base pots and pigment jars. However, I have found that the retail stores will take back just about anything that says MAC on it. Empty face wipe containers, brush cleaners and eyelash cases are all things that empty quickly so it's good to know that we can "back to MAC" them. The website also allows you to recieve any lipstick, with the excpetion of the Viva Glam because the proceeds benefit charity, where the stores give an option of any liptick, eyeshadow, or lip gloss. It is a tad confusing that the company is inconsistant with this program because not all of thier customers are getting the same choices, and also because not all stores follow the same policy.  On their website, MAC describes the program:

Because we share your commitment to the enviornment, MAC accpetc returns of it's primary packaging though the Back to MAC Program. By returning six primary packaging containers to a MAC counter or MAC Cosmetics online you'll recieve a free MAC lipstick of your choice as our thanks to you.
I think the program offered is pretty commendable considering a big corporation such as this does not need to offer any insentives, people will buy the products regardless of any type of "deal". There is actually an entire section on the MAC website dedicated to GIVING BACK. This section describes their charitable programs such as the Back to MAC ProgramViva Glam, Kids Helping Kids, and MAC AIDS Fund. As if their products aren't enough to make MAC irresistable, they step up and look out for others as well.

  1. Wow! I had no idea they did this. I am a huge MAC fan. This would be fantastic if I hadn't already thrown them away, but heres to next time! Thanks so much! You're doing a great job keeping my fashion life in check!

  2. Even though I am not a female, this seems like a pretty cool deal. I am sure with a well known company such as MAC, their priced items can tend to be on the more expensive side. I used to play soccer and if Nike would come to reality and allow you to trade in old cleats for a new pair that would take away from a huge financial burden. I also enjoyed seeing that MAC is open to raising money back for kids within the community. It is always nice to shop for a company that gives rather than gets more out of picking your pocket. Great blog!! :)

  3. I am so pleased to learn that MAC has a program like this! It is such a smart move that fosters good will for the brand, and creates a great reason to buy their superior, more expensive products. People cannot always justify buying a 20 dollar mascara, but they can much more easily do so if they know that they will be able to recycle the containers, which will eventually benefit the environment. It makes people feel like good people when they buy makeup, rather than simply making them feel beautiful.

  5. I'm a total go-green type of person so reading this post made me very excited and I give MAC a gold star. It does sound like a very good deal for people that use MAC products on a regular basis. Otherwise, six pieces of makeup probably costs more than double that tube of lipstick so this deal wouldn't make me all of a sudden start buying MAC products. I'm not all up to date on my make up company news but I sure hope other companies follow MACs lead with this recycling program. Very nice.

  6. This is a great idea that MAC had. Not only are they helping the environment, but also the customer is rewarded.

  7. I had no idea that MAC was doing this. Its a great way to help the environment, while getting more customers invovled in their products and recycling also. I have recently became a fan of make-up and empty containers constantly thrown away without any second thoughts. This mew MAC program allows you to feel good about purchasing from them and still feel and look beautiful with their products at the same time.
